Vehicle Description Largely introduced to the world after World War II, the Volkswagen Beetle has been one of the longest running, mass-production vehicles the world has ever seen.

With competition starting to come from many different compact car companies, Volkswagen came out with the Super Beetle in 1971 and produced this slightly larger and wider model until 1979.
Along with being more spacious, one of the new features that made this Super Beetle stand out from the standard was the front suspension now utilizing a MacPherson strut assembly which greatly improved turning radius and overall driving quality.
The Super Beetle showcased a larger interior, more room in the trunk, vented louvers under the front bumper allowing airflow into the cabin, a curved windshield and flatter roofline.
The 1973 Super Beetle model saw the oil-bath air cleaner give way to a dry filter element, the generator was replaced with an alternator, and the instrument panel formally shared with the standard Beetle was all-new and featured a raised speedometer pod.

Advertised in VW publications and Popular Mechanics magazine, the finished conversion kit showcases wood trim paneling reminiscent of older Ford station wagons with dark panels and light framing, tinted rear plexiglass windows, rear mounted spare tire.
Still powered by its original 1600cc Flat 4-cylinder engine producing 60 horsepower and mated to a 4-speed manual transaxle.
While being a custom vehicle from the outside, it has kept all its standard equipment and added options including defrost, heat, AM/FM radio, chrome bumpers with rubber bumper moldings, twin door map pockets, dual rear ashtrays, passenger vanity mirror, full interior carpeting, and 165R15 Coker Classic white wall radial tires.
