Vehicle Description Considered an intermediate offering for MG cars for only 3 years while the MGA was being finalized, only 9600 of these MG TF cars were ever produced.
Based mainly on the TD, but the headlights were shaped beautifully in the front fenders, the hood was upgraded to push-button latches, and a radiator tilted slightly backwards for a very aerodynamically designed front end.
This 1955 MG-TF 1500 roadster is finished with a Gloss Black exterior over gorgeous Dark Red interior with Tan cloth convertible top and matching side curtains.
Setting this example apart from the others is what lies under the bonnet! With professional assistance from owner Michael Engard of Ragtops & Roadsters based in Perkasie, PA, it was retrofitted with a new European Ford 2.
0L Inline 4 SOHC engine and C4 automatic transmission to replace its original XPEG 1466cc Inline 4-cylinder engine and 4-speed manual transmission! The enhancement takes the original horsepower output from 57hp to an impressive 99hp and 115 lb.
ft.
of torque, while eliminating the clutch pedal for easier driving capability for any driver.
This makes this example a delight to enjoy in any environment as well! All the work was meticulously carried out between August 2005 through September 2006 with every detail of the process fully documented in the records provided.
Further enhancements included a full conversion of the front suspension and braking components to a modern disc brake system, along with a more appropriate rear axle ratio and larger drum brake system, both borrowed from an MGB.
This took the previous axle ratio from 4.
875:
1 to a more suitable highway gear set of 3.
90:
1.
Additional options and features include 15 48-spoke chrome wire spoke wheels (5) fitted with Michelin ZX Radial tires, Plexiglas wind wings, dual chrome windshield-mounted mirrors, tinted sun visors, rear badge plate mounted to chrome luggage rack, Lucas fog lamps, reverse light, headlamp stone guards, wood steering wheel with Stirring Moss etched signature, leather brake handle boot, side curtains, and full tonneau cover! It will also come complete with brass knock-off tool and vintage tire pump.
All the original MG badges, XPEG engine plate, and VIN plates are untouched.
The engine is still generator charged, but received all new wiring throughout including engine bay, dash, and rear taillights to 12-volt, negative ground.
All gauges and lights are functional, with the starter now being a traditional turnkey switch with starter solenoid versus the original pull-start design.
The cooling system is fitted with a thermostatically controlled electric fan, and the transmission with front-mounted auxiliary cooler.
It was always serviced as necessary with no expense spared for proper sorting during this very expensive conversion.
The paint and interior are in superb condition with complete 2003 restoration records also provided.
It's ready for immediate enjoyment! All cars are advertised locally and nationally.
