Vehicle Description Chrysler Corporation's E-bodies were all new for the 1970 model year and were as popular with enthusiasts then as they are now.
The Dodge Challenger and Plymouth Barracuda have long established their status as two of the most legendary American performance cars of the pre-oil-crisis world.
With the Barracuda, Plymouth introduced new styling that drastically separated the car from the economy-class Valiant that had served as the basis for the previous two generations and, as a result, solidified the brand's muscle car appeal.
As such, the Barracuda could be specified with almost the entire range of Mopar engines, from the pedestrian 198-cubic-inch slant-six up to the all-powerful 425-cubic-inch Hemi V-8.
Three trim levels were available across the range and included the base Barracuda, luxurious Gran Coupe, and sporty 'Cuda.
The body styles were simplified to a hardtop coupe or convertible.
With a wide array of Hi-Impact colors, numerous comfort options, and a complete range of engines, the Barracuda provided the Me generation ample opportunity to express individuality.
The 'Cuda's simple yet elegant lines and wide stance made even base-model Barracudas look fast, and the same went for its stable mate, the Dodge Challenger.
The 'Cuda's design is generally credited to Chrysler designer John Herlitz, but as with most automobiles, other designers such as Milt Antonick contributed to its final form.
The design cues evolved through the E-body's entire run, but the basic proportions remained unchanged and stunning.
The 440 Six Pack featured unique, Magnaflux-tested rods and a specific, low-taper camshaft profile, as well as Hemi valve springs and a dual-breaker distributor.
It all helped elevate the 440's gross (but conservatively rated) horsepower rating to 390 - a 15-horspower jump over the standard four-barrel version.
The '70 engines received further internal enhancements, including stronger connecting rods and a corresponding special harmonic balancer.
This outstanding 1970 'Cuda 440 Six Pack has been fastidiously restored to a very high standard, and is presented per the fender tag in its original colors of High-Impact Lime Light (FJ5) over black upholstery.
Also, according to the fender tag and serial number, this is an original V-code 440 Six Pack/4-speed car, equipped with the super-cool pistol-grip shifter.
Additionally, this captivating 'Cuda was ordered with the highly desirable A34 Super Track Package, consisting of a 9 ? Dana Sure Grip rear axle, 7-blade torque drive fan, 26 radiator with shroud, power front disc brakes and Hemi Suspension Handling Package that was only available in 440 and 426 Hemi cars equipped with 4-speed transmissions.
Just 902 of these six-barrel, four-speed coupes were produced for the 1970 model year, making this 'Cuda fairly uncommon.
The black bucket seat interior features a Rallye instrument cluster, which includes a 150-MPH speedometer, a tachometer surrounding an electric clock, and oil pressure, engine temperature, charging and fuel gauges.
The cluster is trimmed with a faux woodgrain that was popular in car interiors of this period.
The Pistol Grip shifter handle also had a woodgrain appearance that contrasted nicely with the chrome Hurst stick.
The high-quality of this comprehensive restoration is remarkable.
Attention to detail and authenticity can be found in every aspect of this rare car.
With its conservatively rated 390 horsepower, 440 cubic inch, Six Pack engine and 4-speed transmission, this asphalt-shredding machine is a thrill to drive.
A check of the numbers shows this car has a period-correct, date-coded 1970 440 block, which according to the previous owner, was fitted early in the car's life.
From its aggressive Shaker Hood to its correct Goodyear Polygas GT tires and high impact paint color, this muscle Mopar certainly looks the part as well.
With aggressive styling, the right options and a superb restoration, this 'Cuda is a must-have for anyone seeking a superlative, restored example of one of Chrysler Corporation's most iconic creations.
