Vehicle Description After Rolls-Royce closed its famed assembly plant in Springfield, Massachusetts, the factory delivered 200 Derby-built Phantom II chassis to Brewster & Co.
in Long Island City, NY.
To suit the fickle needs of American buyers, Brewster made numerous modifications to these cars, including conversion to LHD, revisions to the suspension, and fitment of 20-inch wheels.
Following the conversion work, each cars were assigned an official AJS or AMS suffix to the chassis number, and survivors are among the most sought-after of all Phantom IIs.
This car, chassis 217 AMS, was initially delivered to S.
M.
Swenson on February 28, 1934.
Less than a year into his ownership, Swenson returned the car to Brewster, where the original Henley Roadster body (no.
7416) was substituted for the versatile and handsome Newmarket convertible sedan body it still wears today.
Shortly thereafter, it transferred to Mr.
Charles J.
Rosenbloom of Pittsburgh.
The ownership history is well-documented, and remarkably, it has had just three owners from 1959-2021.
It is offered in lovely condition today, with a rich character acquired through years of attentive care.
The two-tone gray livery is attractive and understated, and the Phantom II would be equally at home in casual concours events or touring the countryside in refined style.
