We found a California survivor from a year between the energy crises ? a ?76 Toyota Corolla Deluxe Station Wagon (model E38), complete with surfboards and accessories.
These Corollas were once ubiquitous across the US, especially on the West Coast.
Once customers learned how reliable they were, they drove the wheels off of them, or turned them over to their children, who then drove the wheels off of them.
Either way, it became rarer to find them as time went on.
More than 40 years later, finding a Toyota this small is nearly impossible.
Reliability and durability quickly became two hallmarks of the Japanese vehicles imported here.
As part of its vanguard, Toyota brought an entire range of models ? sedans, coupes, three-door liftback, a van and even station wagons.
This example was made in January 1976 at Toyota City in Japan.
Finished in white (code 23), the car?s paint and trim are in good overall original condition while the body remains pretty dry condition and the engine bay is tidy.
The Interstate battery appears new and the cargo area is in very good order.
The car?s chrome bumpers with rubber corner caps look great.
This little hauler rolls on radials, size 175/70R13 at all four corners and each one is mounted a factory steel wheel that is vented.
The wheels and tires are all in very good order.
