Vehicle Description Gorgeous restoration done to exacting standards in 2004! Riding on Cadillac's longest 141 chassis and powered by its all original 346ci V8 drivetrain! Original cost in 1938 was a massive $3,419 and represents one of just 380 ever produced! A beautiful 7-passenger Fleetwood Touring Sedan that would compliment any pre-war collection! Cadillac continued to be a leader in the luxury car manufacturing business throughout the 1930's, with high quality offerings in numerous body styles and chassis lengths.
It became a quality choice for many limousine services, funeral parlors for hearses, and ambulance businesses as the premier automobile for reliable daily use.
Unfortunately, the post-Depression era was hit hard for many American luxury automakers.
Peerless closed its doors in 1931, Marmon in 1933, Franklin in 1934, Stutz in 1935, with even the mighty Duesenberg by 1937.
Difficulty selling high end luxury cars in the 1930's was obvious, and the onset of yet another recession in 1938 didn't help.
Even Cadillac suffered the lowest production totals since 1929 this year, making the 1938 Cadillac Fleetwood 75 Series a rare car to find these days.
The Fleetwood 75 Touring Sedan offered here represents one of just 380 produced, and according to the Cadillac/LaSalle Club Registry, one of only 9 recognized today.
It will forever remain highly sought after amongst Cadillac enthusiasts and collectors alike! We are very excited to offer this beautifully restored 1938 Cadillac Series 7523 Fleetwood Touring Sedan to the public market for the first time since 1986.
Finished in classic Black exterior with Gray ribbed pattern cloth interior by LeBaron Bonney, it is accented nicely with its original natural burled walnut window moldings.
Under the hood remains the number's matching 346ci V8 engine mated to a 3-speed column-shifted manual transmission.
Large Fleetwood doors open to a spacious interior offering 7-passenger seating with two fold out jump seats.
Amenities include 6-wheel appointments with dual spares under side-mounted covers, full wheel discs, BF Goodrich Silvertown wide whitewall 4-ply tires measuring 7.
50x16, Trippe Safety Light, heat/defrost, full dash instrumentation, dash clock, rear seat grab handles & assist ropes, footrest, and rear bench armrest.
Up front, an optional Master AM radio was factory appointed when ordered new.
This Fleetwood has a well documented history dating back to 1972, when it was part of Norm Friederichs collection.
He would commence a cosmetic restoration that would span the better part of 10 years, largely in part to the pre-internet fashion of locating parts.
Friederichs would scour swap meets, even wearing signage to broadcast the items he was seeking to better his chances! His finished Cadillac would be one he would treasure exclusively as a driver, not as a show queen like some of his other collection pieces.
His restoration story was nicely documented in an article published in Thunderwagon- Blackhawk Territory CCCA Chapter newsletter and is included with this car's documentation.
It would change hands one time in 1984 before coming into the ownership of Don Hoelscher, a seasoned collector and active club member in multiple arenas of the collector car hobby.
He too would enjoy this Fleetwood 75 Touring Sedan for many years before beginning a complete and comprehensive restoration in accordance with the 1938-1940 Cadillac/LaSalle Authenticity Manual in 2003.
Mr.
Hoelscher would ask George Kipp Woodbury of Buzzard Roost Motors in Mountain Home, Arkansas to help with the exterior paintwork & mechanical overhaul of the running gear and drivetrain.
Nearby Gene's Custom Upholstery would be commissioned to refinish the entire interior to match 1938 Cadillac build standards.
After a yearlong, meticulous effort on so many levels it would be completed.
The results are quite sharp, with only a few upgrades to better operate in touring events.
These include dual inline 6-volt Optima battery for betting cranking, an electric fuel pump, and the addition of a removable third brake light that sits atop the rear seat in the window for CCCA CARavan events.
Photo documentation is provided, along with a host of paperwork to include factory order form, service manuals, authenticity manuals, owner's manuals, engine manuals, factory brochures, tool kit, salesman's data books, accessory catalogs, and much more! Also included are a variety of rebuilt and original equipment parts retained for spares or future use.
Some of these items are photographed in the listing, but an itemized list is available for interested buyers who wish to inquire directly.
All of these treasures will be included with the sale of this fine Cadillac.
Mr.
Hoelscher would sell his Cadillac after 11 years of enjoyment to another local Cadillac club member in 2015.
Always garaged and well cared for, it would go on to be the feature car in the 2015 Concours D'Elegance Forest Park St.
Louis poster, as well as the 2016 Cadillac/LaSalle Museum & Research Center calendar as the December feature vehicle.
It is now being offered to the public after many years of only private acquisition.
We welcome inspections and the chance to show this outstanding example in person! Please call to schedule arrangements to do so before this opportunity passes! Thanks for looking!.
