Position Summary
Position conducts mental health screenings/assessments, provides individual, group and/or family therapy and crisis intervention counseling at Jennings High School. Key staff in integrating biopsychosocial services for students/families, including coordinating referrals for mental/behavioral health, psychiatric and substance misuse treatment. Position also plans, organizes, and implements case management services for students and families, as well as provides staff support in the day-to-day operations of The SPOT at Jennings (JSPOT) program, including working actively to engage youth in services offered by the program.
This position serves youth with diverse backgrounds of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation and gender identity. A comfort and expertise in cultural congruency will be important and requires working from a positive youth development and non-judgmental approach, and a willingness to work with adolescents in their school environment.
Job Description
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Provide biopsychosocial screening to youth at Jennings High School and work to link youth with additional assessment, prevention intervention and care/treatment services at The SPOT/JSPOT or within the community.
  • Administer screenings for mental health concerns (depression, anxiety, trauma and suicide).
  • Administer screenings for gaps in medical care/treatment (i.e., preventative health, treatment of chronic illnesses).
  • Administer traditional case management screenings for gaps in basic needs (i.e., food/housing insecurities, utility assistance, insurance coverage, academic support).
  • Arrange and coordinate service referrals for students/families as needed. This includes working to ensure students/families are successfully linked to needed services provided at The SPOT (i.e., mental health counseling, medical services, health education and at-risk prevention intervention) or in the community (i.e., psychiatry, public benefits, rental/utility assistance programs).

Provide the following direct clinical mental health services to students/families as needed:
  • Crisis intervention counseling.
  • Short term supportive counseling/developmental coaching.
  • On-going counseling/developmental coaching.
  • Clinical case management services.
  • Mental health education to classes/small groups (as time permits).
  • Work with Jennings High School administrators/staff as it relates to the care plan of students receiving SPOT counseling services (as needed/appropriate).

Perform indirect tasks related to the day-to-day operations of the program.
  • Document all contacts and service coordination activities in client records as required by program guidelines.
  • Operate as part of the integrated Adolescent Medicine/Project ARK/SPOT Youth Center behavioral health team.
  • Participate in clinical staffing, multidisciplinary team meetings and required trainings.
  • Maintain confidentiality and privacy of students per HIPAA and FERPA guidelines.
  • Provide additional support to the school-based health center, including working actively with the JSPOT Program Manager to engage youth in services/programs.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Job Location/Working Conditions/Schedule
Outpatient clinic suites located at The SPOT Youth Center/The SPOT at Jennings. Adolescent-specific medical office/community organization environment. Evening and weekend hours as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of two years of experience in providing mental health screening, assessment, counseling, and referral services, including case management support services to youth and their families.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Computer skills.

Required Qualifications
  • Equivalent of master's degree in social work.
  • REQUIRED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION: AAMFT, ASLPC, LCSW, LPC, CPC, LMFT or licensed Psychologist in the state of Missouri and/or Illinois, depending on location, required. Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements).

Salary Range
$55,000.00 - $85,300.00 / Annually
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
