0 Full-time 7 hours ago Full Job Description Hiring Department University Marketing and Communications Job Description Nature of Work The University Marketing and Communications photographer creates imagery for print and digital platforms, as well as major university campaigns, projects and executive communications.
We are seeking a visually creative person who has expertise in photography and lighting equipment as well as some skills creating video.
An ideal candidate will seek out great shots that showcase the vibrance of the university and its people and help bring its mission to a diverse and far-flung audience.
The University Marketing and Communications photographer will serve as a member of the MarCom content team, reporting to the director of public relations and content, but must also work collaboratively with members of the creative services and web teams.
The ideal candidate will help elevate our storytelling with great photography to accompany written work in UMSL Daily - our online news blog - as well as UMSL Magazine, enhance the look of our website and marketing campaigns, and will also help expand our use of video to engage audiences in new and different ways.
This position requires work in an office environment, but has frequent assignments on- and off-campus and does both indoor and outdoor photo and video shoots.
Candidates much be able to traverse our extensive campus, transporting necessary equipment, to capture photos and videos.
Key Responsibilities Content Creation and Management Produce images that communicate the stories of the people, the work and the impact of the region's premier public research university and the numerous ways it is engaged in strengthening the St.
Louis community.
Develop concepts for photo and video productions and make decisions about the visual style, camera angles and settings, and locations.
Scout locations for photo and video shoots and determine lighting requirements.
Take initiative and demonstrate strong photo, lighting, video and audio skills to ensure that all content meets UMSL's standards production quality as well as the integrity of the university's brand.
Exercise excellent judgment, appropriate discretion and on-location directing/coaching when taking imagery of and working with university administrators, faculty members, students and other subjects.
Maintain files during editing, processing, retouching, color correcting, or archiving in an organized manner that aligns with office workflows, including tagging files with metadata.
Collaborate with members of the creative services team to contribute to graphic design utilized in select projects.
Take initiative to find visual story ideas.
Ensure needed assets for web crops Develop web clips and YouTube videos.
Technology and Resource Development Contribute photo/video expertise to collaborative planning, creative, and strategy meetings that bring the University Marketing & Communications team together with key campus partners; consults and mentors others.
Ensure effective and timely delivery of final images.
Drive the evolution of MarCom's camera and lighting equipment.
Order and test gear.
Contribute to effective project management, including ensuring the successful implementation of processes for content management staff members.
Promote the overall creative capabilities of MarCom; mentor others and consults; provide trusted guidance.
Research, Standards, and Tool Development Stay on top of the creative marketplace to ensure work is consistent with or exceeds the industry standard.
Work collaboratively to set and maintain technical standards and best practices for brand imagery and productions across university channels.
Research and advocate for new techniques and tools.
Take the initiative to report on and recommend new software and technologies.

Hiring Range:
$48,900 - $68,815 Annually Grade:

Senior Strategic Communications Associate Internal applicants can determine their university title by accessing the Talent Profile tile in myHR.
Minimum Qualifications A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications At least five years of experience in photography, videography, or relevant field.
Must be highly motivated with a strong work ethic and professional pride in multimedia content creation and production and able to take initiative.
Has an ability to articulate creative direction and to understand and apply feedback.
Experience with managing workflow processes and organizing files within a digital asset management system.
Expert-level mastery of Adobe Creative Suite is necessary for responsibilities.
Experience on a university campus.
